The 12 music box mechanisms play the same tune but when played all at once with each one beginning at a different place in the tune a random music performance is generated, hence the name, RAMGEN (RAndom Music GENerator).

With other variables such as the number of clicks each mechanism is wound on, the position of the mechanism in the stack or when the brake is released, make for a different composition at every performance.

The gyrating movement of the music box mechanism stacks is equally random. The two stacks dance side by side in the performance.
